Bio

Born in 1979, I grew up in a fairly small town in Western (back then it was called “Federal Republic of”) Germany. I found Highschool quite boring that I managed to break the school’s record of missed classes and spent all the saved time perfecting my cardgame and chess skills while drinking tons of coffee and smoking cigarettes. As a half-Asian I felt obliged to pick up a martial art, won some Kung-Fu championships, had an obsession with fishing (that sounds odd.. huh?), and eventually became interested in composing music.

At the age of 16 I was the musician and main composer for an internationally acclaimed demo-group called Sanction. We would travel to so called demo parties all over Europe and held the record for winning a certain kind of demo competition (the 4Kb) 3 times in a row.

I wanted to study music, namely composition. But I wouldn’t accept any college. I was fixed on the idea that it had to be at the Hochschule der Künste (Highschool of Arts) in Berlin. The only bad thing was that they only had space for 3 students and there were tons of applicants. Well, after 2 days of intense testing I didn’t make it. I continued to compose music but somehow ended up studying core computer science (with focus on graphics) and music at the University of Dortmund.

For my partner, job & friends I decided to move to Canada and it was about the best decision in my life so far.

My sister gave me a little point&shoot camera for christmas. I loved fooling around with it so much that in late 2006 I decided I want to be more engaged with photography and bought my first SLR camera. In April 2007 I felt comfortable enough to take pictures of people I haven’t met before in a studio environment. Back then I thought those pictures were pretty rad.

Today

I have the honour to be working as one of the jaded Pixel Allstars on Shopify. There I am responsible for the ugly and the pretty, for the accessible and logical decisions on user interfaces & webpages. I am also the author of Opinion, a forum software written in Ruby on Rails.

Check out the Shopify Forums to see it in action.

I am a passionate photographer. I try to focus on only fashion & beauty photography. So I am afraid I won’t accept any offers for wedding photography. If you need a good wedding photographer, please contact Andrew Geddes. He is an amazing artist and the person I would want to shoot my wedding (and I am very picky about photos).
